Well, houses were cheaper in 1963 but not THAT cheap. I bought my first
house just four years later - in 1967 - a very modest 1000 square-foot
bungalow on a 40-foot inner city lot in Minneapolis for $16,000. I had
just bought a new Corvair Monze coupe in the summer of '66 for about $2700.
Earlier, I bought a new Morris Minor in 1959 for $1660. In '68 I bought a
'64 Chevy Bel Air for $1200. In '73 I bought a new Toyota Corona for
$2714. (Terrible car!) I remember that less than year later the Corona was
up to well over $4000.
