While the quoted figure seems very low, I don't think your alternative is
right, either, Tony! In Santa Barbara, in 1975, my restoration shop was
charging $10 an hour. In 1977, we upped it to $12.50 an hour. By 1980 we
were all the way up to $20! It was the mid-eighties before $30 an hour was
usual.
