I just wanted to thank everyone who offered suggestions regarding my
two part problem afetr I had installed a new transmission with an
overdrive in my 72 MGB. The situation was: 1) I was only able to
install two bolts from the cross member support system (several of you
suggested mods that will take care of this) 2) I had a total of 8
forward gears i.e. the OD worked in 1st and 2nd as well. I thought that
I had a defective switch because my backup lights were on all the time.
I erroneously assumed that the same switch controlled the back up
lights and also was the OD cut out. I replaced the switch which fixed
the back up lights and then as suggested by several of you began the
process of backing off the actual cut out switch that is on the drivers
side of the tranny opposite the back-up. I drove about 10 miles on a
back road in rural Maryland... riding, stopping and adjusting, riding
etc. and finially got it into adjustment. Then enjoyed a 30 mile run at
65-70 with the OD engaged and could actually hear the Little Feat tape
I was playing. Next I have to replace a worn choke cable that gave up
the ghost during this job and another speedometer cable to install. I
hope this will go smoothly-- but as one of our group has stated in his
tag line...if you want to drive a piece of History you have to be
willing to pay the price. Thanks again.

Regards,

Dan
