Okay, seems the tach I got for The Luggage (my Cooper S) is not what I'm
used to.
I've put up a scan of the back at:

The ground is obvious. I/m guessing the other spade lug partly visible
behind the two connectors is for 12 v. +
It's the two connectors that have me puzzled. I'm used to one connector
that goes to the diz terminal of the coil. Any idea where these connect?
Do I need some kind of sensor to use this tach?
