Probably your motor, my Mk1 1600 A revs like a top to 5500rpm where it
decides it's had enough (still have to figure out why). But the A is a
smaller capacity. My 70 MGB 5 main motor, was no way near as free revving as
my A motor. So I think your problem could be a different issue altogether.
Could be a ton of reasons but also consider Ignition & Carburation. You need
to go over the basic tuning not to mention eliminating wear and lack of
performance in all those parts.
