Steve,
The tap does just screw in. I don't think they used a sealant
originally, but that was a few years ago and many ins and outs of the
drain tap. I would use some. Also, have a supply of the hard red
gaskets on hand. You may need to use two in order to space the drain tap
so that it sets straight.
