I concur with John. The estimate is reasonable. But John, the two used
fenders were for the Porsche, right? $500 ea is more than new Heritage
front wings for the B. I recently had rear quarters/doglegs replaced on
'76 B and respray. Since I didn't want the distraction from my '65 B
project, I hired it done. This shop charges but $30/hour for welding and
subs out the painting at $35/hour - very nominal shop rates for these days
- compare with your local new car dealers! At that it ran about $2600 by
the time it was done, and I paid for the new rear quarters separately.
I know from doing my own welding on the '65 B that it is a very
labor-intensive process. The pro's work faster than I do, but careful
cutting/fitting, welding, grinding, etc take huge amounts of time. For
$2910, I hope the body man gave himself a little leeway, in case he runs
into major problems with inner wings, etc.
' Seems like a lot of $ I know, but I don't see how a guy could do it for
less and still make enough to keep his shop open.
