That's because electrons go the other direction in the southern hemisphere,
similar to the way the water swirls down the drain. Obviously, the first two
alternators were set up for a northern hemisphere location, resulting a
reduced life. Your also lucky all of the smoke didn't leak out during the
whole ordeal.
