I think most people will agree with me when I say....
later model years, due to smog stuff and de-tuning
do not run as hot as the earlier high compression non-smog'ed
models. Lower compression, and retarted cam timing
usually (I say usually.. there are exceptions) run cooler.
read into this whatever you will, but my experience has been
the earlier models can definitely benefit from a cooler, as can ANY car.
The later models can get by without one, as long as you keep this in mind
and your cooling system and oil systems  are in proper working order.

...it can be argued as well that an oil cooler will let the car run too cool
and never
really let the engine run at its proper operating temperature
especially in cooler climates.
You have to take each case seperately.
