As an aside, I met an interesting fellow who once worked a cotton
gin in the south in the earlier part of this century.  If the cotton
got a small "hot coal" in it, the protocol was to throw gasoline on
it.  It would put out the relatively minor blaze without damage, and
would evaporate much faster than water would.  As effective and
reasonable as this may sound, do not try putting out fires in your
home with gasoline.
