Now the questions start! I just began looking around the engine of my new '77
Midget. The car has a Weber DGV downdraught carb (clearly marked "Made in
Spain"), but I don't have any original documentation on it. I bought the
Haynes Weber Carb manual, but these questions aren't covered. Maybe some of
you could help. (I hope!) The car has otherwise been de-smogged, with air
pump removed, etc.

1. There is a small diameter tube (about 1/16") under the accel. pump. It
looks like a vacuum connection, but this one has a ROOFING NAIL inserted in it
by the DPO! Since I don't think Weber specs roofing nails as accessories for
their carbs, can anyone tell me what this tube is, and where it should be
connected? Or will the carb operate correctly with the tube plugged? (I will
cap the tube with something that looks better than a roofing nail, if it will
operate correctly without a vacuum connection, if, in fact, it is a vacuum
line.)

2. Where is the throttle return spring supposed to connect? Mine has a foot
long spring connected to the radiator spill tank!

The Haynes manual does not have a diagram of the carb with components
indicated. It only has an exploded view, which makes it difficult to figure
which screw is on which place. The small tube is just shown as part of the
carb body, with no explanation.

I have ordered a Gunson Color Tune, which should help me set the thang up, but
I would like to know which screws are which before I start fiddling!

If anyone has the DGV and still has any documentation that came with it, would
you be able to supply a photo copy to me? (Or any other helpful stuff.) I
would be happy to pay in advance for expense and postage. Please e-mail me
privately and I'll give you my address.

The fun is just starting!
