Heel and toe is the description for the simultanious application of brake
and throttle.
Not widely used in this day of all syncro trannies, it was the method of
choice when downshifting in years gone by, especially when "double
Clutching". Some of us OF's still do it that way and "save the
syncronisers". REAL racers do it all the time.
In practice, the operation goes like this
Brakes are applied when slowing, in the usual manner with the ball of
the right foot.
As the car continues to slow, and a downshift is needed, the clutch is
depressed, lever moved into neutral, clutch released (here it comes) the
right foot is "rolled" to depress slightly (ie "blip") the throttle with
the heel of the foot, while continuing to brake with the ball of the
foot. The lever is moved to the lower gear and the clutch is released.
