In June and July, 1991 I took my 1980 MGB on a coast-to-coast and back again
trip. Starting odometer reading at departure on 6/18 was 117158, ending
reading on 7/23 was 128,471 for a trip total of 11,313 miles. Longest
non-stop runs (defined as time spent in the driver's seat with pit stops only
for fuel/food and parking lot naps were: Sausalito CA to Zion National Park,
UT (757 miles), Flagstaff AZ to Oklahoma City OK (893 miles) and Gadsden AL
back home to Branford CT (1,208 miles). The only mishap on the whole trip was
a blown manifold to catalytic converter gasket.
I am the second owner of the car. Purchased with 91,344 miles on the clock.
It now has 196,459 miles on an untouched engine/gearbox. Overdrive stopped
working about 18 months ago, but otherwise it runs well. Only troublesome
component is the autostarter on the Stromberg.
