I missed the original thread (and don't want to face the Wrath of the List
by reviving it here!), but I have a feeling that the 'Cats flattened while
you wait' license plate frame I saw the other day would have been
appropriate!

Whoa there, my wise young sage, that wasn't me. My only contribution was
that, once declawed, they worked well for swirl removal.

For the LBC content, regarding lifting a B engine using the manifold studs
vs the rocker studs --

If a lifting plate is secured so it is pulling on the BASE of the stud, any
lateral pressure from lifting will be trying to shear the stud off --
something that's not likely to be done with the weight of the engine. If
the lateral pressure is against the TOP of the stud, the stud will tend to
bend over. In the case of the rocker studs (especially if the rocker shaft
is removed), lifting from the center of a chain which is stretched between
the top of two studs will result in a lateral pressure that is
substantially higher than the weight of the engine (from what I remember
from physics classes about 10 years ago) -- I wouldn't be at all suprised
to see the studs bend under this pressure. A chain secured to the
mainfold stud with a washer and nut should exert the the lateral pressure
against the stud within 1/4" of the face of the block, and shouldn't cause
damage (at least it didn't when I lifted my B engine!)
