When tearing down my '74, I had no problem pulling the knob off the dimmer
switch after pushing in the button you described and pulling. I used the
ultra high-tech, special purpose tool (finishing nail) to push the button
in -- the catch is the same type of catch as the heater/vent control knobs.

of mine just bought a '79 B that has the same problem. Can't turn it, can't
pull
it, can't push it, too small to use a hammer. We're stumped! Help!
