Just returned from a 19,000 mile trip in the MGA. Maintainance on the
trip included:
Adjust the carbs (running rich).
Tighten screws in the starter motor (just came loose).
Replace water pump (broke from loose generator).
Replace fuel pump (cheap NAPA part went 90,000 miles).
Replace contact points in distributor (prior mileage).
Replace door latch (broken latch pin).
Replace tie rod ends (bad before leaving home).
Total = aproximately $200
While I was gone the 1990 Chevy Lumina my wife drives did this:
All new brakes all around, $1400.
(Midas saw her comming).
(6) shorted (low resistance) fuel injectors need replacing (no
longer starts).
$ 65 towing (stranded on road)
$533 injectors
$ 34 gaskets
$ 357 labor
Total = $989
Those two items on the Chevy in two months cost the equivelant of about
200,000 miles worth of maintainance on the MG.
The idea of owning a ZB Magnet is looking better every day.
