Hi folks.
Discovered another lovely surprise in my new baby - a leaking gas
tank.
I discovered the problem only after giving the car its first full
tank of fuel (well, the car is a '76 so it's probably not its FIRST
but.....). Drove home from the gas station, down the decline into my
garage, parked and went inside. I returned ten minutes later
,dressed to tinker, and was hit by gas fumes. A quick peek under the
car showed a nice big puddle beneath the gas tank but no signs of a
continuing leak.
As soon as I started to jack the car up, fuel started spilling off
the top of the tank. Rocking the car vigorously also caused fuel to
leak. I siphoned out half the fuel in the tank and haven't had a
leak since (keeping the tank only half full) so I'm reasonably sure
that my problem exists on the top of the tank.
Any suggestions before I siphon out the rest of the fuel and drop my
tank? What do you think I'm likely to find?
Thanks for your time.
