Michael and All,
I have remained (for the most part) quiet since the "incident", just lurking
and enjoying. But I must speak out. David Deutch is David Deutch. He is who
he is. Like him or hate him, he is a contributing member of the list. He
works hard cataloging events. He works hard preserving LBCs. You may not
like his humor, or the way he comes off, but he makes you think!! Didn't we
all evaluate what enthusiasm meant to each of us? If he jerks your chain,
just delete his message and go on. If someone gets offended, take it off
line. Cyber-life is tough, believe me, I know! Political correctness is
tossed aside. What is said, is said safely, as we hide behind our handles. I
have seen a different side of Mr. Deutch. When the cyber-sky started falling
on my head, he was one of the few to defend me and talk to me off-line about
it. He offered his home number if I wanted to talk. An OK guy, if you ask
me. I can't wait to meet him in person. He'll probably try to insult me, but
I'm a big boy, I'll fire back! Let's enjoy the forum technology has provided
us. If we are insulted, ignore it, or fire back (off line). The MG rules,
it's the one thing that this VERY diverse group of nuts has in common, so
personalities will clash; but we ALL have the right to be here. Amen.
Dan Hughes, the ultimate f-up, has spoken!

IMHO this should read "upsets SOME people", because David's humor has never
upset me. In fact, I find the prissy over-reaction to his deadpan more
puzzling than his own sometimes questionable delivery. And yes, I've been at
the receiving end of his humor -- I just dish it back. Not that he's perfect,
and he sometimes deserves a slap upside his cyber-head, but the
Dave-bashing always seems to exceed the alledged crime. No one has to like his
or anybody else's style, but they WILL have to live with the fact that not
everyone hates it.
