Steve:
The nipple is a cheap item from Moss Motors. I expect the S&H will be
more than the cost of the item. I do not remember if the thread is a
peculiar British one or not, so best gop with the replacement from
Moss. I can understand if you were looking at the end of the shaft
inside the chassis box that you thought the fitting had been soldered
over. The shaft there is welded onto the drop arm which actuates the
clutch, and on all the ones I have seen, there is quite a lump of metal
which looks like a blob of solder. The opposite end is the one you
want. Hope this gets you going.
