Ignition light

Hello all!
  I just got a 78' MGB. It had been sitting in a garage for 5 years. I have
begun the slow job of cleaning it up and restoring it. Just last night I got
to the point of hooking up the battery. When I did the ignition light on the
dash came on and the key was not even in the ignition. Why does this happen.
Has anyone else seen this? Do you think it is just a wiring prob.

PS I havnt tried starting it yet! :)
