su fuel pump saga...

So I cleaned the points and yes, I got stuck again. Many of you said that my 
new su pump could be 15 years old sitting on some shelf somewhere and that 
the rubber inside could be cracked causing it to stick. Now that I am a true 
believer in net wisdom... a few questions.

Are we talking about the diaphram in the pump?
Should I just buy the diaphram or the whole rebuild kit?
How hard is it to do/how long will it take?
