I had the same problem in a '68 B GT. In my case the alternator had failed with the DPO causing a short through the ignition and tach to ground. The wire insulation in the harness under the dash had melted causing an intermittant short which by-passed the key switch sometimes. We finally re-wired the beast. Gud luck Ernest E.
