carburator is a french word that translates to "leave it alone!!"
You have the right idea in looking at timing, plugs, dwell, etc before going
to the left side of the car. Also check your "gulp valve" in the smog pump
circuit and make sure the diaphram of the PCV valve is ok, not cracked or
holed. THEN and ONLY then you can look at the carbs, but I bet it's the gulp
valve or the timing. OH, speaking of valves, also adjust them before even
LOOKING in the direction of the carbs.
Point being, too many people plunge into carb fussing before making sure the
other stuff is ok, and by doing so, get things so hopelessly screwed up that
the thing will NEVER run right ... then they blame it on the carbs or on
England in general. If you do everything else first, 95% of the time you will
never even have to touch a carb, and your car will be better for it.
