Side gapping is the fine and delicate art of cutting the electrode of
your spark plug and re-bending/gapping it so that the spark fires
sideways or at an angle. The theory was that this exposes the spark to
more of the compressed charge, same theory as splitfire. Drag race
tuners have used this for years, but who knows. Seems that manufacturers
would sell side-gapped plugs if this really made a difference. Just like
monkey snot, which does not clog filters, IMHO, but is more difficult to
pour into the crankcase than PTFE additives. I may cut up some plugs to
try it out.
