Thanks for all the ideas.
We used the "enlarged hole in the batt box" method which allowed
elevating the slave cyl above the m/c. Worked very well.
BTW, found pitted area in the slave, so we honned (sp?) relatively
clean and it's holding for now. I think this is where the air entered.

PS. Someday we'll figure out how to send out pictures as we're very
proud of it. And, we'd sure like to see some of the others. Not
enough local shows in So. Calif.
