A little backgroung on my situation. I am on a contract here in
Brisbane, Australia that is finished in late October. About six months
ago I needed a vehicle to get me around, have some fun in, and would not lose
too much money on when I needed to sell on my return to the States. So
what did I find, a beautiful red 67 MGB mack I.
I bought it knowing some work would have to be done to it. It is in
pretty good shape. I believe it has been resprayed and maybe even in a
small accident at some point (Noticing the crome bumper in front is in
better condition than the rear, looks new). After rebuilding the head
due to a blown head gasket (cause severe overheating, the temp gauge was
unrepairable due to the heat) and having the rear springs reconditioned
it runs good. The third gear sincromesh is slow and grinds if you shift
to fast, but I just altered my shifting technique and I don't notice it
much anymore. I also believe the king pins need to be reworked (a
clunking noise under braking) as well as one or both of the front wheel
bearings.
The car is not stock, it has an after market roll bar, electric fans,
alternator, twelve volt battery.
If I were to bring it back I don't think I would worry about the
originality however I would most likely rebuild both the engine and the
transmission, respray the entire shell and engine bay, and do some
suspension work on it.
My questions are:
What kind of price could I buy a comparable vehicle for in the states?
Would I have to change the steering configuration from right to left?
If, not would the vehicle be worth more in right hand config?
Are there any specs I would need to upgrade to?
What is the price for shipping to the US?
It seems most MG shops here import MG's from the states and still make a
profit even after switching them to right hand drives.
