Hi Folks. I don't post much as I'm quite the novice with British cars but,
in this instance, I think I might actually have something to share. Cool!
I have a '66 Midget that's still Positive Ground. The previous owner did a
dandy job of installing a voltage inverter for a rather nice pull-out
stereo - that I still have. It's true, the voltage inverter puts our a
whine. His (PO's) solution was to do a little re-wiring. Let me explain...
Both the headlights and the guage lights are now on the same switch leaving
the guage switch to be the master switch for the voltage inverter. This
way, there's no extra drain on the battery when I'm not using the stereo.
Now, there are problems with this. The voltage inverter was (I've since
disconnected it) wired directly to the battery w/out any fuse between. I
started experiencing some strange electrical problems when the voltage
inverter decided to die which is the reason it's been disconnected.
Don't get me wrong. I'm a strong advocate of converting to Negative ground
and will do so someday. My ultimate goal in converting is to install an
alternator. Well, that and get the stereo working, again. :)
Hope this helps.
Take care
