Those Virginia black snakes will indeed do a number on the "head rice"
you are experiencing... they love rodentia.
(too much time driving a Mazda today ^^^^)
As far as choke cams... the HIFs seem to start pulling the mixture pretty
soon into the cable travel. The fast-idle screw should be a significant
distance ( 1/8"??) from the end of the cam, so it is up on the "flat" part.
Right now I am running without a fast-idle screw on the rear carb. It
seems to start very nicely withOUT choking... and I am getting tan
spark plugs.
Could be my conversion from ABD to AAF needles (or the other way
around... from 73 era to late 60s era).
I love those SUs... once I quit messing with the Spitfire HS2s, they
started working beautifully.
Oil consumption still nil on the rebuild!
