I realy hate to brag, BUT... I got my 302 for $50 from a private party. it
needed a rebuild, but that only ran $500 with warranty. This was a bone
stock 302 from a 71 Stang. I got REALY lucky and it is even one of the much
sought Mexican blocks. Just got my intake, carb and distrib for another
350. I should be seeing 300hp easy from it with a mild cam.. I am thinking
~$2k for complete conversion, will post once done.. I am hearing ~70lbs
heavier with alum heads. I am going to go for Alum everything, h20, intake,
rockers... I plan to try and weigh each piece Stock iron vs alum to get a
true comparison.
If you REALLY want to spend $$ (~$6000 for full conversion) on par with a
high end 215 rebuild, then get a 302 and buy a Alum block for it. They are
available for ~$3500 from Summit Raching. That will drop you to 215 weight
no problem..
On the Posi-Trac, I have heard they are a problem with our light cars. they
tend to hop in cornering since our cars don't have weight to make em
dis-engage.. I have heard that about stock Fords t boot a true posi would
be worse no??
GRET IDEAS GUYS!!
Larry
