I have the convex mirros on my TD. It already had a LH one so I added a
RH one. Both are on the fenders. The purpose of these mirros isn't so
much to be able to see behind you, but what's in the lanes beside you
just aft of the car. In otherwords the blind spot of what's not visible
in your periferal vision and what's not visible through the inside
mirror. So I have mine adjusted so I see the adjacent lanes. You see
very little of the lane directly behind you. Most of the time I can just
spot part of the rear fender. They are used mainly to check for traffic
off the rear quarters before changing lanes. That's why most modern
vehicles use a convex mirror on the passenger side. That blind spot is
larger and the convex mirror picks up any traffic before you make lane
changes.
