I had encountered the mysteries of the nuts and bolts during normal repairs
on my TD during the first twenty five years of my ownership. When I decided
to disassemble and restore the car, these experiences reinforced my efforts
to carefully remove, plastic bag, and identify each group of bolts and nuts
as to the location, etc. This seemed a little anal at the time, but I also
wanted the same original bolt head appearance where possible.
After cleaning and a new phosphate coating, I was able to reuse most of the
original fasteners. These saved the grief of finding new ones, and with the
bags labeled, I didn't have to concern myself as to the thread and size.
FWIW to those intending to go down this path.

Ain't it fun-
Dallas
