I missed the earlier part of this but for oil soaked brake linings I was
told to give them with a good soaking of brake cleaner and allow time to
dry off. I tried it and they have worked fine. I subsequently pulled
the drum and they look fine months later; no glazing spots or
deterioration. It may depend on how long they have been in oil however.
