2 and 3 bow tops

Can anyone on the list explain how to tell the difference in a 2-bow vs a
3-bow top? I am speaking of the cloth portion. Do they have cloth flaps to
attach to the bows as on an MGB top? Can the later cars that had 3-bow tops be
fitted with the earlier bows and tops?
