Does anyone happen to know what amount of dwell is recommended for an early TD
XPAG engine running a standard cam shaft, standard distributor with
asymetrical lobes?

I am setting the timing and seem to be getting better power if I turn the
dwell down to 53-55 degrees rather than 57-60 degrees.

Also, has anyone replaced the advance springs on their stock distributor with
new Moss springs? I did and am having trouble getting enough advance at the
high end (4300 rpm). Should be around 30 degrees advanced. I have checked
for binding and everything seems to be free. I'm wondering if the originals
were the same way (dummy me through the old ones away when I did the engine
rebuild last year).

Last question. Prior to retiming the engine it seemed to have a quieter
exhaust sound. Now with the dwell set to 55 degrees, and timing set as close
as I can get to the curve with my springs, the exhaust seems a lot more
throaty. Can't tell what is causing this...any thoughts?

Thanks in "advance"
