Hi Douglas,
The rivet is a spirally grooved tapered drive rivet. As far as I can tell,
they are made from unobtainium, i.e., new ones don't seem to be available. I've
found it easy to remove the rivet by cutting a narrow groove across its head and
then treat it as if it were a screw, i.e., turn it counterclockwise to remove
it. You'll then be able to reinstall it with a hammer.
