The fuel tank gasket is squre-edged, similar to the gasket in the later
oil filters. It can be pried out the same way. No sealant needed as the
cap presses against the rubber edge and holds the gas inside the filler
neck. You might check that the inner cap has some movement so that it
can fit itself to the rubber.
