Just as a follow-up, when the time comes where does one get an engine
rebuilt?
<<<snip>>>

Except for some actual machining done at a machine shop why not do it
yourself. As someone said, then you'll know what's been done, how it
was done, and whether it was done correctly.

Go to the library and get a book on rebuilding engines. It's doesn't
need to be MG. Find out about the process and the machine work
necessary. Read the Workshop manual, (You definately should have one.)
and go to work.

Remember, depending on who you take the engine to, some rebuilders don't
have the all of the equipment to do all of the machining. That means
you pay them to haul the crank, block, or other items to a machinist for
work. That's high priced labor for flunkie work. Learned that on when
having a valve job done while still in college. I removed the head and
took it into the local car dealer. He farmed it out to machine shop.
Thus he made money just for hauling the head to the shop and bringing it
back. I could have done that!
