No one has yet mentioned the Law. To the best of my knowledge, it is illegal
to operate a motor vehicle anywhere in North America without wearing a
seatbelt. Whether or not one thinks this is a good or a bad thing is not
particularly important.
Rather, what in the end would matter would be that an insurance company
would in all likelihood be on solid legal ground to deny the ensuing big
money benefit claim from your heirs for your accidental death or
dismemberment as almost any policy would have "fine print" that indicated if
you were in any way driving illegally, they're off the hook and all those
premiums paid in were wasted money.
Please install and always wear the best seatbelts you can find for you and
your passenger, for both of you and, for both of your heirs.
