Bob, Got me as to the "timing" of the sump change--I just don't know. My 1948 TC #6756 has a deep, finned sump that was there when I bought her in 1953. I did however change the oil pick-up system to a later version which has an extended "scoop" which points forward, presumably to take care of oil surges under hard acceleration.
