Sending Unit

Hello All:
Have a 52 TD, #12659, have almost finished a complete tub off restoration.
Put a new sending unit on the gas tank and cannot get it to stop leaking??
It seems to be comming from the bottom of the cap(covering) on the backside
of the unit.  There are four screws that attach the cap to the unit.  It has
a rubber gasket, could a cork gasket be better suited? Any ideas?
