I'll measure rear bearing carrier for our friend as I am right in the middle
of mine. The reassembly process had raised the following questions for me as
well:
1. When I placed a split washer and full sized nut on studs from bearing
carrier to outside of rear brake drum, nut only has room to thread about half
way on stud. Removing the split washer doesn't seem safe... but neither does
a half threaded nut. Old Moss catelog shows a split washer and a half-nut but
still, it has no more threads in contact with stud than a full nut palaced
half on. Am I half nuts?
2.. Front drums went on same way but seemed to take up all the threads. First
thought the difference might be the fact that the rear bearing carrier must
"nip" the bearing as you assemble, and shims used to ensure a tight fit on
bearing make the difference? Not so on mine as no shims required.
Forget it or... order up a fist full of half-nuts?
Thanks
Don B.
