Tread width is Center of right tire to center of left tyre

Ok, so I am continuously reading the short page and a half of MS rules,
para 5.D.4, B and I see that the front suspension can be narrowed to a
"tread width" of B 27 inches. B Now my basic understanding of tread width
is that width of rubber on a tire that has grooves in it. B Track Width,
I understand as the width between center lines of tires on an axle. My
front "track width" is about 58 inches (ie center of one tire to the
other tire) while my "tread width" is about 5 inches as I measure it.
What's correct? My curiosity abounds....
