Hi all, Vernier invented the way the scale is made with a sub set of nine divisions to match against ten on the main scale. This allows reading to one more decimal place than the main scale divisions allow. This scheme is also present on micrometer calipers, height gauges and many other measuring tools. Generalized to describe anything that makes a fine adjustment (vernier rockets) Jim in Palmdale, putting 4 years of tool and die apprenticeship to good use. > named after Pierre Vernier, ca 1766 )are not the only item named after this |
