the one I saw was a simple tool, a measured rod pivoted in the
middle, attached loosely to an insertion rod, idea was that the
gimmick would fold up to pass through the central spark plug hole,
then the measured rod would flip down to touch both sides of the
cylinder. I think one end was weighted, so it would close up to
remove. the tech guy would measure it before (or after) insertion. he
would also try to wiggle it inside the bore, verifying its actual
measurement. stroke was just a vernier caliper measurement. seemed
pretty good to me, how the tech guys thought, I have no idea....
