Dave, I agree. The word STOCK does NOT, repeat NOT!! appear in the rule book
regarding PRO heads. Port CONFIGURATION is the control. And that has been
interpreted as resembling the original heads "style" and location.
Using an SBC as an example, the head has had "Siamese" (side-by-side)
exhaust ports for 50 years. The OEM port "shape or size" today, is not the
same as it was on the 1955 265 cu.in. However, the Siamese configuration has
remained in effect for 50 years regardless of port size. Any symmetrical
geometry would violate the legacy design. Port size and shape (small or
large, "D", or circular") has nothing to do with it because even those
features changed over the years on pure stock OEM heads. Configuration and
valve count are the ONLY control features. -Elon

I think and may be wrong that the port placement on an 18 degree head while
different is the same style as a 23 degree head. IE they are next to each
other unlike a SB2 or the spread port heads that look like a mini big block
