At risk of getting in where I'm over my head, I will say this for the
FIM presence at Bub's:
By Thursday afternoon, when things were down to the basest level of
cluster-muck (misspelling mine) imaginable, one of the FIM guys (George
something -- I didn't get his last name) started pushing here, acting
there, nudging the other place, and the event did start to get moving
much better. Waiting time at the various start lines dropped
dramatically, questions got answered immediately, situations got
resolved promptly, even when his response wasn't the most popular -- it
was at least good enough to move on. He even did little things that
made sense -- like bringing a cooler full of iced bottles of water for
us riders that had been waiting for (what seemed like) hours. Nobody
else did that...
Best of all, he promised that all of the cornfusion WAS BEING NOTED so
it could (hopefully) be avoided next time.
Did we feel the need to run for FIM records? Nah, not really -- the
SCTA/USFRA/ECTA get our membership dues. But at least we saw the FIM
trying to make the racing at Bub's fun and fair, and that's more than I
had expected from past stories I've heard about them. Thanks, George.
