On some four-lane roads in Tucson where there was a median, it was
landscaped with desert vegetation-- including large boulders. The
nitwits of the city council decided they were a danger to motorists and
had the boulders removed.
Now it's no trouble at all to cross the median into oncoming traffic.
....just like Hwy 1....

I live just off Hwy.1 on the central coast of California. Now Hwy.1 is
only 2 lanes wide and kind of twisty in places. There is a town south
of me about 10 miles that has a lot of field workers. Well these guys
have a habit of having too much to drink and driving home. They don't
care, they are illegal, no license, no insurance. So they would miss a
tight corner and plow into a tree and kill themselves. So because of
that, they cut down most of the trees and widened out the curves. So
now these drunks can really get up to speed before they cross the
double white line and kill some poor guy and his family going the other
way. Seen it happen way too many times.
