I saw that one and another called "The History of Flight", both sponsored by
Shell, in physics class years ago. Somewhere out there must be a copy of
"Transonic Flight"; the wind tunnel tests show Schlieren images of shock
waves developing, becoming detached, etc. It is old but very informative.

No, I didn't consider transonic speeds-- most of us are not close enough to
that region to worry about it. BTW; did you ever see that old movie called
"Transonic Flight" (of wind-tunnel tests) that was produced out by Shell
Oil? It showed exactly what you referred to-- scary.
