I think you are right-- that there is the possibility of some progress
through optimizing tire grip.  None of the big-power bike guys seem to be
doing much about it right now.

I don't know how much more this (grip improvement) will get us bikers,
though.  The dragsters have factors working for them which may not be
practical for us-- like the big downforce wings, for example.

RE--tire slippage and "sit on" bikes----i remember that some of my fellow
engineers in the late 50s/early 60s predicted that, based on tire
coefficients of friction, that no dragster could exceed 160 mph in a quarter
mile.  They were wrong because the dragster tires did not obey the normal
tire/surface friction analytical model and acted more like "gears" than
tires.  Maybe similar tire compounds, heat from burnouts, other dragster
tire technology could be adapted (easier at Maxton than on salt)---a "glue"
that chemically bonds to the tire surface and sticks to concrete, asphalt,
or salt when heated?
