just wondering to what should KT's transmission failure (last SpeedWeek) be
attributed? Not an over-torque issue????

p.s.-- Salt coefficient of friction probably varies A LOT from one meet to
another. I think it was very "grippy" in 2002 (except maybe for WoS).

Dave has touched upon an important issue with regard
to torque. More torque than the salt will accept and
it goes up in wheel spin. This is true at any part of
the run but especially at the start (no aero wall
there, I hope!). My limited experience has been with
small bore engines but I have used a transaxle rated
4X under the torque I put through it at Bonneville.
With exception of a freak side cover bearing failure,
that little gearbox has never failed to deliver, even
with nitrous application. IMHO, traction-limited
application of torque is not allowed build to build to
catastrophic levels at any part of the run. By the
time you shift into final drive, engine torque will be
even less of a problem to the drive train. Now, you
get to deal with the aero issues! Have fun.
